Participating Institutions

A Collaborative Network of Institutions

The WeCASOR Network is built on collaboration between hospitals, universities, and clinical research institutions committed to improving stroke outcomes research across West and Central Africa.

Participating institutions contribute to the network through clinical expertise, data collection, research leadership, and capacity development.

Each participating site operates under its own local regulatory and ethical framework while contributing de-identified research data to collaborative analyses conducted through the WeCASOR infrastructure.

This decentralized model ensures that institutions maintain regulatory autonomy while benefiting from regional scientific collaboration.

Network Structure

Institutional Sites

Participating hospitals and medical centers serve as data collection sites and clinical research partners.

Site Principal Investigators

Each institution designates a Site PI responsible for local ethics compliance, study implementation, and data quality.

Country Coordinators

Support network activities within participating countries and facilitate coordination between sites.

Central Coordination

Program coordination oversees research integrity, data governance, and scientific direction.

Pilot Institutions

The initial phase of the network focuses on pilot implementation in selected institutions across West and Central Africa.

Nigeria

Participating institutions in Nigeria contribute to the development of baseline stroke data and support early implementation of network studies.

Cameroon

Institutions in Cameroon contribute to both retrospective and prospective phases of the network's research portfolio.

Institutional Responsibilities

Participating institutions play an essential role in ensuring the scientific integrity of the network.

Obtaining local ethics approval for research activities
Ensuring appropriate patient consent procedures where required
Maintaining secure storage of identifiable patient information locally
Submitting de-identified data for collaborative analysis
Participating in training and quality assurance processes

Benefits of Participation

Collaborative Research Opportunities

Participation enables institutions to contribute to multi-country research initiatives and collaborative publications.

Capacity Development

Participating sites benefit from training opportunities in research methodology, data management, and clinical outcomes research.

Scientific Visibility

Institutions contributing data and leadership to network studies are recognized in collaborative publications and scientific dissemination.

Regional Impact

Participation contributes to the generation of evidence that can support improvements in stroke care systems across the region.
